Banke: The Integrated Check Post (ICP) situated along the Nepal-India border in Nepalgunj is facing delays in its operationalization, despite being inaugurated jointly by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal of Nepal and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, around one and a half months ago.

The inauguration ceremony took place in June, with both leaders remotely inaugurating the check post from Hyderabad House, the Indian Prime Minister's Office. The primary purpose of the ICP is to enhance cross-border connectivity and facilitate smoother trade and movement between Nepal and India.

The delay in its operation is attributed to the construction company's failure to hand over the building to the government. Consequently, there are still ongoing physical works that need to be completed before the ICP can become fully operational. Additionally, tasks related to human resource management and security arrangements are yet to be finalized, further contributing to the delay.

Bijay Keshar Khanal, the Chief of Building Division Office in Nepalgunj, disclosed that efforts are being made to expedite the remaining tasks, but it is estimated that it may take around two more months before the ICP can start functioning as intended.

The ICP in Nepalgunj-Rupaidiya holds significant potential for improving trade and connectivity between the two neighboring countries, but the current delays are posing challenges. The authorities are diligently working to resolve the outstanding issues and ensure the ICP's smooth operation at the earliest possible time.
